Deborah’s Place Chosen in the 2007 MetLife Foundation Awards for Excellence in Affordable Housing

Enterprise Community Partners announced today that the Rebecca Johnson Apartments, a permanent supportive housing development of Deborah’s Place is the recipient of the 2007 2nd place MetLife Award for Excellence in Affordable Housing.

The awards, presented at the Enterprise Community Partner Conference in Cleveland, Ohio, recognize and share the important work being done by community-based organizations across the country. The award includes an unrestricted grant of $15,000.

Community-based and regional nonprofits or tribal organizations compete in two categories: supportive housing and property and asset management. Winners in each category receive unrestricted grants for $35,000 for first place, $15,000 for second place and $10,000 for third place. Winners are highlighted in an Enterprise publication and on their website to increase knowledge of how to successfully provide supportive housing (housing with services such as case management and job counseling onsite) and to effectively manage affordable housing.

Deborah’s Place Executive Director, Audrey Thomas accepted the award. “It is an honor to accept the award on behalf of the Rebecca Johnson tenants, staff and community of Deborah’s Place. We share a commitment to our mission to break the cycle of homelessness for women in Chicago and we embrace the belief that housing is a right, not a privilege. We thank Enterprise Community Partners and the MetLife Foundation for recognizing our work in providing affordable and supportive housing to women to who are homeless.”

Other MetLife award recipients include 1st place winner Community Housing Partnership in San Francisco and Plymouth Housing Group in Seattle.
