Film Screening Events Bring Awareness to Women’s Movement, Raises Funds for Deborah’s Place

This winter the Northeastern Illinois University Social Work Program and other NEIU partners worked to promote the empowerment of women and girls as well as raise funds for women who are homeless. In January & February the NEIU Social Work co-sponsors hosted screenings of the critically-acclaimed documentary, “Miss Representation”, a film that explores women’s under-representation in positions of power and influence.  Their goal was not only to bring awareness to the film and the Miss Representation women’s advocacy movement, but also to raise vital funds for the women and work of Deborah’s Place – a goal that they certainly achieved.  The screenings were a great success, bringing in over 175 guests and raising over $1,700!  These funds will be a great asset to Deborah’s Place as we work to provide proven and compassionate solutions to homelessness for women in Chicago.

We are so grateful to all of the NEIU co-sponsors, staff and volunteers who donated their time to put on this amazing event:
