Volunteer Opportunities and Sign-up

**PLEASE NOTE: We are completely full for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day opportunities. We look forward to your service on any other day throughout the holiday season, and year. Thank you.**

There are a wide range of volunteer opportunities throughout our programs and we work with volunteers to find a right placement for their special talents and interests. Volunteers can provide their services to:

Dolores’ Safe Haven, 1532 N. Sedgwick
The fifteen-bed Safe Haven provides a safe and supportive environment for women with a severe mental illness who have been chronically homeless.

Teresa’s Interim Housing, 1532 N. Sedgwick
Ten-bed, 120 day interim housing program providing a safe, structured community where women and staff work together to meet goals such as stable housing, employment, family reunification, and improved health.

Patty Crowley Apartments, 1530 N. Sedgwick
These apartments provide a permanent home for thirty-nine women with disabilities in private studio or shared bath apartments

Rebecca Johnson Apartments, 2822 W. Jackson
The Rebecca Johnson Apartments mark the end of homelessness for ninety women who live in studio apartments.

Marah’s Permanent Housing, 1456 W. Oakdale
Marah’s offers permanent supportive housing for thirty women with disabilities.

Within each of these programs, Volunteers can help by:

· Preparing and serving a meal at one of our residential sites (Marah’s and Dolores’ only)
· Playing board games with the women
· Leading a workshop for the women in the Career Exploration Class
· Answering telephones and assisting with clerical work in one of our offices
· Participating on a board or fundraising committee
· Planning a drive for items that are needed (i.e. toiletries, food, cleaning supplies)
· Working at the Food Depository.
· Tutoring a woman to help her complete her GED
· Organizing a party for the women
· Teaching computer classes
· Hosting a third-party fundraising event
· The possibilities are endless!

The first step to volunteering at Deborah’s Place is to sign up below. Enter the program where you would like to volunteer, the service you would like to provide, and the date your would like to start. This date is subject to availability, however, and you are not guaranteed to be able to volunteer on that date. A Deborah’s Place staff member will contact you within two weeks to arrange your first day of service. If you are not contacted within two weeks after signing up online, contact Sarah Letson.

On your first day you will be asked to attend an orientation and fill out a volunteer application. The application is also available here if you would like to complete it and bring it with you on your first day.

As a volunteer, you should keep in mind the core values of Deborah’s Place, especially those of building community through relationships and supporting an individual’s freedom to make choices.

Thank you for your interest and we hope to see you soon!
